Arrived in Sorrento!

We arrived in Sorrento! After two planes and a 3 hour bus ride, we have finally checked into our hotel. We stopped for a yummy Italian dinner along the way. We even enjoyed St Benedict drinking water. Sunday morning our travelers were up early taking in the Mediterranean breezes. Today we have Sunday Mass in Pompeii before visiting the ruins and more. Today we took a high speed train from Florence to Venice and explored this unique city. Venice was built in a lagoon because it’s original inhabitants were searching for safety and security. They built a city with no roads, only boat canals.  Venice is home to many Catholic Churches including St Mark’s Basilica which took over 100 years to build and was completed in 1092. Today Venice is know for its Murano glass, leather goods, and many universities that specialize in the arts. Oh, and don’t forget the gondola rides!

Awards Night at Final Dinner

It is a quiet tradition to have a nice dinner on the last night and recognize the gifts and talents that each member brings to the trip to make the trip successful and positive for all. Ms Deady and Mrs. Hybinette started the ceremony. Then we took a moment to thank the teachers, Ms. Deady and Mrs. Hybinette, our pastor Father Steve, Mr Accardi and our tour guide Fabi! It was a nice way to end the trip.

Papal Audience at St Peter’s Square

Today we had the unique experience to attend a Papal Audience, a multi-lingual prayer service where the names of all the parishes and religious organizations are recognized in the language of the country. There are prayers in Italian and the daily reading in the languages represented in the audience. We got up really early to get a good seat so we could see the Holy Father up close. Our efforts paid off. Pope Francis rode around through the crowd and you could really sense the excitement. The Holy Father blessed everyone in the audience and extended his blessings to our family and loved ones. Now that’s a souvenir!
